We are thrilled to be part of the fabric of the Portland Metro community. As we grow in the Portland Metro area, we will continue to strive to enhance the way people move around their community safely and without hassle. That is why we are excited to work with Oregon’s Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) to gain insight on how to better share the roads and improve safety in America’s bike capital.
Over St. Patty’s Day weekend, we set out to help the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Portland chapter prevent underage drinking and save lives by encouraging riders to leave their keys at home. We were thrilled to see hundreds of riders in the Portland Metro area join in the pledge to think and ride with Uber. The Portland Metro community helped Uber raise $1,052 for their local MADD chapter.
From Beaverton to Tigard to Hillsboro to Gresham, people have been relying on Uber to connect them to safe, affordable, and reliable rides since late last year. At Uber we are especially proud of our emerging role as a complementary service to existing public transportation. Here in Portland, we are helping make the Portland Metro Area more accessible to residents, commuters, and tourists.
Basketball madness is upon us here in Portland! Hoops fans from all over the country are falling in love with the Rose City and trying to get to know it better. In the past 48 hours, we have seen thousands of people all over the Portland Metro Area opening the Uber app with the hopes of zipping around town. As this map shows, demand for Uber in the Portland Metro Area has been off the charts.
Today, on the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, we are proud to share with The Uber Community that we are embarking on a new global partnership with UN Women with the goal of accelerating economic opportunity for women. As part of our commitment to this goal, Uber will create 1,000,000 jobs for women as drivers on the Uber platform by 2020.
