Hanoi Your Uber Is Arriving Now!
Yesterday’s passage of the Vehicle-for-Hire Innovation Act in our nation’s capital marked a watershed moment: 14 US jurisdictions have now adopted permanent regulatory frameworks for ridesharing, a transportation alternative that didn't even exist 4 years ago. On the heels of Colorado, California, Chicago, Baton Rouge, Oklahoma City, and several others, DC taking this step is a signal to the entire country that there is a marked shift towards progressive regulation that expands and evolves transportation ecosystems in cities around the world.
Four months ago, Giuliani Partners embarked on an independent strategic review of Uber’s driver background check (“BGC”) process. Today, I would like to update you on our progress. Uber is on track to complete more than 2 million background checks of potential drivers in 2014, which Uber has noted is among the highest totals of any major corporation in the world. This is a daunting task for a company that has yet to reach its 5th birthday – but I am pleased to say that in my opinion and that of my safety consulting team at Giuliani Partners and our partners at Guidepost Solutions, Uber is setting the safety standard in the ride-sourcing industry.
